The difficulty in squeezing horsepower from this engine has set us up to use
Different solutions from the usual ones.
The classic solutions, higher boost pressure and revisiting are not enough
of the software part, we also had to work on the air flow, replacing
the turbine and a new additional air inlet on the filter box.
Absolutely without losing anything at low revs.
We also had to adapt the carburation by replacing the injectors
as his originals were not suitable to withstand the required increases in power
from the modification.
By doing so we have obtained satisfactory results, in fact I would like to say more than satisfactory.

The requests of more or less demanding customers …

the requests of several dealers of ours, the requests of mechanics who work with us, and finally, the answers to our research activities focused on precise and exact queries, have all led to the same result.
On the model Smart 451 1000 turbo, the control unit does not give the results sought and hoped for, even after fiddling around with it.
At least, in most cases, the results do not satisfy who carried out the work or even those who commissioned it and paid for it.
A solution adopted by many has been that of modifying the turbine and widening the suction part.
But when it comes to trying it out and you want to take the booster pressure to the due levels……here’s where the problems begin.
So, you just have to accept the power reached thanks to widening the turbine and be happy with the minimum rise in pressure that this manages to obtain.
We have bench-tested about 200 models of Smart cars and we have seen that none of the cars tested had the Horse Power declared, but much more, even though they were perfectly standard.
For example, the 84 HP model had exactly 91 to 94.
The same applies for the 98 HP, which was always beyond 106.
Not to mention the 102 HP that even reached 111 HP.
Of these “gift horses” offered by the manufacturer, someone has taken personal advantage by providing a power graph with their re-programming work thus taking the merit for the result; by this, we do not however mean to judge or complain. This is merely a brief explanation of the reasons that have led us to create a special elaboration kit for these cars.
The results obtained speak for themselves:
On the model with 84 HP, we have reached 120 and a torque of 17 kgm.
On the model with 102 HP, we have reached 135 and a torque of 20 kgm.
In this kit of 135 HP, you also need to change the clutch, because the original one is not able to manage the generous torque obtained.
The kit includes the following parts:
A new petrol pressure regulator.

A new fuel pump with suitable capacity increased.

A much bigger petrol filter, installed outside the tank (with special brackets).
Some new petrol pipes, but still with original fittings.
A brand new waste gate valve (100% plug and play).
A supplementary control unit, and please, do not call it “additional module” because it has nothing to do with the modules; in fact, nobody else has even dreamed of, or better, managed to make it.
All this has been created bearing in mind those who have to install it, so it is very straightforward. You simply have to follow the instructions exactly, which are backed by lots of photographs.
The only thing that is necessary is for the mapping to be the original one, at the most with the speed limiter modified, nothing else.
This is because the kit has been tested and intentionally created for original vehicles, seeing as it is impossible to carry out the calibrations and adjustments on maps created by others, because there would be thousands of absolutely uncontrollable variants.

The new version of the ksl product is now available. This product does not replace the previous product but actually amplifies the range. The difference between the two products lies in the operating temperature that they are able to withstand. This new model called HKSL can be installed even in vehicles with very short exhausts or manifolds such as the following: PORSCHE-FERRARI-LOTUS-etc. In these vehicles the Lambda probes are very near the engine, therefore the exhaust gas is much hotter and much faster compared to a vehicle with long exhaust or manifold, or at least compared to a vehicle with engine at the front and exhaust that runs right along the vehicle before is reaches the outlet. This is because, in such configuration, the Lambda probes are much further away from the engine compared to the versions just mentioned. Then there are other cases such as vehicles with aspirated or turbo engines, which either due to an exasperated preparation or due to a “weak” fuel mix, have the same conditions of high temperature or high speed of the exhaust gas. Such condition is unbearable for the Lambda probes too (failures in Lambda probes are indeed very often caused by high temperatures) and so we have re-designed and produced another and new model of the ksl product. The new HKSL product is able to withstand temperatures of around 1150 degrees. The high cost of the materials used and the processing times, which are tens times those of the previous version, have a negative effect on the end price. Unlike the previous versions we created, this system integrates a new micrometric pressure control system, which allows you to adjust and manage the pressure with intervals of hundredths of a bar to obtain and control minimum increases in pressure, power and torque, without the control unit entering recovery status.
It also proves useful when reprogramming the control unit where you are unable to obtain the attempted pressure.
Adjustments are made using a special little turning hand, and in steps of just a few degrees apart, to increase or decrease by just a few hundredths (2 to be precise).
This mechanical feature allows you to move forward or backward always in the same identical position without losing the adjustments made.
As in all our overboost systems, adjustments are made without releasing air externally.
A preloaded spring system with different working sections of the pressure allows continuous and precise adjustment and modulation, keeping the set value constant, applying a slight response delay, which will allow you to obtain also a small pressure peak different from the constant pressure set. This favours a higher torque.

Differently from all other breather valves on the market, which have many problems for what concerns the stability of idling and even more problems in the suction regulation and therefore causing a wrong working, we have produced and patented a breather pipe valve totally free from those problems. Our new Power Pop can be installed on any car with turbo petrol motor without any of the above-mentioned problems. The working is guaranteed also in presence of ignition/injection systems with airflow rate reading through debimeter or hot wire. The valves sold until now from most producers use a suction regulator that evaluates the airflow rate in order to stop the opening of the valve by idling and solve in this way the idling problem. This solution lets the valve open in a limited way while releasing the gas pedal and therefore alters the good working of the exhaust. Air Suction Manifolds are easy to install in every kind of filter box or wherever more airflow is required.Example: a motor with four cylinders and 2000 cc displacement has a unitary displacement of 500 cc. Then the filter box should contain 500×19=9500 cc, that is 9.5 litres. Measure the capacity of your box and you will see that you will never have the flow needed. The manifold can in no way increase the volumetric capacity of the box, but it enables it not to depress when the motor reaches the peak of suction, that is to say in the peak of torque, by supplying a supplementary suction inlet. Now someone could think that it would be sufficient to make a hole in the box without spending money on manifolds. This could be theoretically done, but a hole of 50 millimetres would react, because of the produced turbulences, like a hole of 20 millimetres that sucks air in a chaotic and whirling way worsening and not improving the motor breathing. The manifolds are available in three standard measures: Short: H 3.3 cm, hole in the box side 40mm Medium: H 6.8 cm, hole in the box side 40mm Long: H 11.2 cm, hole in the box side 40mm They could also be built according to customers’ needs.

Waste Gate Racing

Many people think it is sufficient to stretch the spring of the waste gate to easily obtain horsepower. But very few know that stretching the spring (by shortening the rod) one obtains not only more power but also a dangerous reduction of the opening door, as the stroke of the waste gate is shorter. When the exhausting door gets less open, it does not release the gas at the best and automatically increases its pressure and temperature causing those fatal cracks in the turbine and the dangerous increase of the exhaust backpressure. To face this problem it is sufficient to replace the Waste Gate with one more appropriate to the needs of the turbine. Our Waste Gates are completely built with ergal and are hard anodised and therefore can resist at high pressure and temperatures, besides they have no kind of diaphragm but a piston that has a stroke that is double than in a normal waste gate. To order it, it is sufficient to state the pressure you want to obtain and the car model. In some cases our Waste Gates are equipped with bolt and tie rods, while in other cases the installation needs the original bolt. In this case it is sufficient to detach the Waste Gate from its bolt, which will be later used as support to our Waste Gate.

Air Suction Manifolds

Air Suction Manifolds are easy to install in every kind of filter box or wherever more airflow is required.Example: a motor with four cylinders and 2000 cc displacement has a unitary displacement of 500 cc. Then the filter box should contain 500×19=9500 cc, that is 9.5 litres. Measure the capacity of your box and you will see that you will never have the flow needed. The manifold can in no way increase the volumetric capacity of the box, but it enables it not to depress when the motor reaches the peak of suction, that is to say in the peak of torque, by supplying a supplementary suction inlet. Now someone could think that it would be sufficient to make a hole in the box without spending money on manifolds. This could be theoretically done, but a hole of 50 millimetres would react, because of the produced turbulences, like a hole of 20 millimetres that sucks air in a chaotic and whirling way worsening and not improving the motor breathing. The manifolds are available in three standard measures: Short: H 3.3 cm, hole in the box side 40mm Medium: H 6.8 cm, hole in the box side 40mm Long: H 11.2 cm, hole in the box side 40mm They could also be built according to customers’ needs.

Waste Gate Racing

Many people think it is sufficient to stretch the spring of the waste gate to easily obtain horsepower. But very few know that stretching the spring (by shortening the rod) one obtains not only more power but also a dangerous reduction of the opening door, as the stroke of the waste gate is shorter. When the exhausting door gets less open, it does not release the gas at the best and automatically increases its pressure and temperature causing those fatal cracks in the turbine and the dangerous increase of the exhaust backpressure. To face this problem it is sufficient to replace the Waste Gate with one more appropriate to the needs of the turbine. Our Waste Gates are completely built with ergal and are hard anodised and therefore can resist at high pressure and temperatures, besides they have no kind of diaphragm but a piston that has a stroke that is double than in a normal waste gate. To order it, it is sufficient to state the pressure you want to obtain and the car model. In some cases our Waste Gates are equipped with bolt and tie rods, while in other cases the installation needs the original bolt. In this case it is sufficient to detach the Waste Gate from its bolt, which will be later used as support to our Waste Gate.

Before you start reading the technical specifications, we inform you that we do in any event advise you not to remove the catalyser for any reason whatsoever.
The new version of the ksl product is now available. This product does not replace the previous product but actually amplifies the range. The difference between the two products lies in the operating temperature that they are able to withstand. This new model called HKSL can be installed even in vehicles with very short exhausts or manifolds such as the following: PORSCHE-FERRARI-LOTUS-etc. In these vehicles the Lambda probes are very near the engine, therefore the exhaust gas is much hotter and much faster compared to a vehicle with long exhaust or manifold, or at least compared to a vehicle with engine at the front and exhaust that runs right along the vehicle before is reaches the outlet. This is because, in such configuration, the Lambda probes are much further away from the engine compared to the versions just mentioned. Then there are other cases such as vehicles with aspirated or turbo engines, which either due to an exasperated preparation or due to a “weak” fuel mix, have the same conditions of high temperature or high speed of the exhaust gas. Such condition is unbearable for the Lambda probes too (failures in Lambda probes are indeed very often caused by high temperatures) and so we have re-designed and produced another and new model of the ksl product. The new HKSL product is able to withstand temperatures of around 1150 degrees. The high cost of the materials used and the processing times, which are tens times those of the previous version, have a negative effect on the end price. The new HKSL product does NOT REPLACE THE PREVIOUS KSL PRODUCT.

Unlike the pneumatic control valve, this model represents the evolution and about the sound(I puff air) or to the operating speed.

To provide complete information, you should be aware that when we are speaking of electric or pneumatic valves, we always mean valves with the same identical functions.
The differences are merely in the opening command
In the electric valve, there is a magnet that is energised by the flow of current, which pulls a plunger toward it, which in turn opens an orifice where the air to be vented passes. The discharge may be open (valve with hissing) or closed with recirculation (silent valve).   In the pneumatic valve, the opening and closing command is given by a small tube that has to take pressure and vacuum to fill or empty a chamber with either a diaphragm or a piston inside it. In the pressure phase, the force of the same applied on the face of the piston or diaphragm, keeps it pressed down, closing the venting orifice, while in the vacuum phase, on the face of the piston or the diaphragm, a negative force will be applied that pulls upwards, thus freeing the orifice below and venting the air. Having said this, it is clear that the electrical execution speed is way higher than that of air.
